AftertheJuly7thIncidentin1937,inordertocultivaterevolutionarycadresandmeettheneedsoftheAnti-JapaneseNationalLiberationWar,theCentralCommitteeoftheCommunistPartyofChinaissuedaAttheendofthemonth,itwasdecidedtoestablishtheNorthernShaanxiPublicSchool,whichwasorganizedbyLinBoqu,WuYuzhang,DongBiwu,XuTeli,ZhangYunyi,ChengFangwuandothers.NorthernShaanxiPublicSchoolimplementstheprincipalresponsibilitysystemundertheleadershipoftheCommunistYouthLeague.ItisdirectlyundertheleadershipoftheCentralOrganizationDepartmentandtheCentralPropagandaDepartment.ItisarevolutionaryuniversityfoundedbythedirectleadershipoftheCentralCommitteeoftheCommunistPartyofChina.
ThemissionandtraininggoalofNorthernShaanxiPublicSchoolisto"implementnationaldefenseeducationandcultivatetalentsfortheWarofResistanceAgainstJapan."Theeducationpolicyof"theoreticalfoundation"andtheformulationofteachingplansarebasedontheprinciplesofsevendivisionsofpoliticsandthreedivisionsofmilitaryaffairs.Theprinciplesofteachingworkarethelinkbetweentheoryandpractice,thecontentofteachingissmallbutprecise,andteachingandlearningareconsistent.Inthetwoyearsofrunningtheschool,theNorthernShaanxiPublicSchoolhastrainedmorethan6,000studentsandrecruitedmorethan3,000youngpeopletojointheCommunistPartyofChina.

Inthesummerof1939,thesituationoftheAnti-JapaneseWarchanged.TheJapaneseinvadersandKuomintangdiehardssteppeduptheirattacksontheliberatedareas.InJune,theCentralCommitteeoftheCommunistPartyofChinadecidedtojointlyestablishNorthChinaUnitedUniversitybyShaanbeiPublicSchool,Yan'anLuxunArtCollege,Yan'anWorkers'School,andAnwuFortWartimeYouthTrainingClasstojointlyestablishtheNorthChinaUnitedUniversitytorunschoolsbehindtheenemyinNorthChina.
OnJuly7,1939,NorthChinaUnitedUniversitywasestablishedinYan'an.Theprincipalresponsibilitysystemundertheleadershipofthepartygroupwasimplemented,andtheMinistryofSocialSciences,theDepartmentofLiteratureandArt,theMinistryofWorkers,andtheMinistryofYouthweresetup.TheeducationalpolicyofNorthChinaUnitedUniversityis:totrainrevolutionarycadresfortheneedsoftheactualstruggleoftherevolution;topayattentiontothecombinationoftheoryandpractice;toimplementtheprincipleofbeingsmallbutpreciseandpopular.Theschoolmottois"Unity,Progress,HardWork,andPerseverance."TheNorthChinaUnitedUniversityimplementsmilitarizedmanagement,andthecadrestrainedcanmeettheneedsofworkingunderwarconditions.ItisthefirstinstitutionofhigherlearningestablishedbytheCommunistPartyofChinabehindenemylines,andisknownas"ahandintheheartoftheenemy."sword".

Inthespringof1948,theCentralCommitteeoftheCommunistPartyofChinadecidedtocombineNorthChinaUnitedUniversityandNorthChinaUniversityMergedandestablishedNorthChinaUniversityinordertoconcentrateeffortstoexpandthescaleofrunningschoolsandtrainalargenumberofconstructioncadrestowelcometheliberationofthecountry.NorthernUniversitywasestablishedintheShanxi-Hebei-Shandong-YuborderareainNovember1945.Itisalarge-scalehighereducationinstitutionestablishedbytheCentralBureauoftheShanxi-Hebei-Shandong-HebeiCentralBureauoftheCommunistPartyofChinaandthePeople'sGovernmentoftheBorderArea.Theschoolimplementstheprincipalresponsibilitysystem,andconsistsoftheSchoolofAdministration,theSchoolofFinanceandEconomics,theSchoolofEducation,theSchoolofEngineering,theSchoolofMedicine,theSchoolofAgriculture,andtheSchoolofArt.InthetwoyearssinceNorthernUniversitywasfounded,theCCPhastrainedmorethan1,000professionalsinvariousfields.
OnAugust24,1948,NorthChinaUniversitywasestablished,withthecampuslocatedinZhengdingCounty,ShijiazhuangCity,HebeiProvince.UndertheleadershipoftheNorthChinaBureauoftheCentralCommitteeoftheCommunistPartyofChina,NorthChinaUniversityimplementstheprincipalresponsibilitysystem.Itaimstotraincadresinpolitics,economy,cultureandart,educationandotherfieldsservingthenewdemocraticsociety.Ithasfourdepartmentsandtwocolleges:oneforpoliticaltrainingThesecondistheSchoolofEducation,whichtrainsmiddleschoolteachersandeducationcadres;thethirdistheSchoolofLiteratureandArt,whichtrainsliteraryandartisticcadres;thefourthistheResearchDepartment,whichengagesinresearchandtrainingandimprovesuniversityteachers;twoThecollegesaretheCollegeofEngineeringandtheCollegeofAgriculture.
InApril1949,NorthChinaUniversitymovedtoPeiping.FollowingtheinstructionsoftheCentralCommitteeoftheCommunistPartyofChinaonrelaxingenrollmentconditions,absorbingalargenumberofintellectuals,andquicklytrainingalargenumberofcadresfortheliberationofthewholeofChina,NorthChinaUniversityputstheemphasisonrunningaschool,enrollingmorethan15,000students,andopeningabranchschoolinZhengdingandTianjin..Attheendof1949,mostofthestudentsgraduatedandwenttowork.Sofar,NorthChinaUniversityhassuccessfullycompletedthehistorictaskoftrainingcadresforthenationalliberation.

NorthChinaUniversitygavebirthtoagroupofvarioustypesofinstitutionsofhigherlearninginNewChina.From1948to1949,inordertomeettheneedsofthedevelopmentofcultureandeducation,somesubordinateunitsgraduallyseparatedfromtheschooltorunindependentschools.TheCollegeofEngineeringbecameindependentanddevelopedintotheBeijingInstituteofTechnology(nowBeijingInstituteofTechnology);theCollegeofAgriculturemergedwiththeSchoolofAgricultureofPekingUniversityandtheSchoolofAgricultureofTsinghuaUniversitytoformBeijingAgriculturalUniversity(nowChinaAgriculturalUniversity);theSecondDepartmentofForeignLanguageslefttheschoolandworkedwithPekingForeignAffairsTheschoolmergedintoBeipingForeignLanguageSchoolandgraduallydevelopedintoBeijingForeignStudiesUniversity;afterleavingtheschool,thethreedepartmentswerepreparedandfoundedtheCentralAcademyofDrama,theCentralAcademyofFineArts,theEastChinaBranchoftheCentralAcademyofFineArts(nowChinaAcademyofArt),theCentralConservatoryofMusic,andBeijing.People'sArtTheater,YouthArtTheater,CentralOperaHouse,ChineseAcademyofPekingOpera,etc.NorthChinaUniversityalsotransferredsomecadresandteacherstoCentralPlainsandGuangdongtopreparefortheestablishmentofCentralPlainsUniversityandSouthernUniversity.FromAugust1948totheendof1949,NorthChinaUniversitytrained19,194cadresforthecountryandmadeimportantcontributionstotheliberationoftheChinesepeople.

October1949Onthe1st,thePeople’sRepublicofChinawasestablished.InordertocultivatetalentsfortheconstructionofNewChinawithMarxist-Leninistqualitiesandprofessionalknowledge,theCentralCommitteeoftheCommunistPartyofChinadecidedtomergetheformerChinaUniversityofPoliticalScienceandLawonthebasisofNorthChinaUniversity,andtransfersomecadrestoNorthChinaPeople'sRevolutionaryUniversitytoformRenminUniversityofChina.
OnDecember16,1949,theeleventhpoliticalaffairsmeetingoftheCentralPeople'sGovernmentAdministrationCouncilpassedthe"DecisionontheEstablishmentofRenminUniversityofChina"basedonthesuggestionsofthePoliticalBureauoftheCPCCentralCommittee.
OnOctober3,1950,RenminUniversityofChina,whichwasmergedandformedonthebasisofNorthChinaUniversity,helditsfirstopeningceremonyandbecamethefirstnewformaluniversityfoundedbythePeople’sRepublicofChina.
OnNovember12,1950,theCentralCommitteeoftheCommunistPartyofChinaapprovedtheestablishmentofthePartyGroupofthePeople’sUniversityofChina.
Attheendof1952,RenminUniversityofChinahasbeguntotakeshape,with9departments,38teachingandresearchrooms,1translationroom,inadditiontospecialties,preparatorycourses,Marxist-Leniniststudies,graduateclasses,andMarxist-LeninistEveningschools,eveningschools,correspondencecourses,andtheattachedGongnongfast-trackmiddleschoolhavetrained2,318graduatesofvarioustypesforthecountryinthreeyears.
In1953,Chinaenteredanewperiodofsocialisttransformationandsocialistconstruction.Inordertoadapttotheneedsofthenewperiod,RenminUniversityofChinaadjusteditsschool-runningtasksanddisciplinesandopenedupanewtypeofindustrialandagriculturalintellectuals.theway.
InordertocultivateinternationalChinesetalents,in1953,underthejointcommissionoftheMinistryofForeignAffairsandtheMinistryofEducation,RenminUniversityofChinaacceptedforeignstudentsfromPoland,HungaryandothercountriestolearnChinese,becomingthefirstChineselanguageteachinginthecountry.Asoneoftheschools,thesubjectofChineseInternationalEducationwascreated.
In1954,theschoolwasidentifiedasacomprehensiveuniversityfocusingonsocialsciencesandthefirstbatchofnationalkeyuniversities.
InAugust1954,theDepartmentofForeignTradeofRenminUniversityofChinawasmergedintotheBeijingInstituteofForeignTradeandtheBeijingInstituteofForeignTrade(nowUniversityofInternationalBusinessandEconomics)wasestablished.
OnSeptember10,1955,theSchoolofForeignAffairswasformallyestablishedonthebasisoftheDepartmentofDiplomacyofRenminUniversityofChina.
By1956,RenminUniversityofChinahaddevelopedintoacomprehensiveuniversityfocusingontrainingMarxist-Leninistteachersandcadresofeconomics,politicsandlaw.
After1957,thefacultysettingofRenminUniversityofChinahasbeenfurtherdeveloped.Bytheendof1965,therewere1college,12departments,3researchinstitutes,and1researchroom.Thereare19majors.
In1960,theschoolwasdesignatedbythecentralgovernmentasacomprehensivenationalkeyuniversity.
Inthe15yearsfromthefoundingoftheschoolto1965,RenminUniversityofChinahasacceptedmorethan400internationalstudentsfrom24countriesandregions,trained65870graduatesofvarioustypesforthecountry,andachieved2,397scientificresearchresults.
The"CulturalRevolution"thatbeganin1966broughtseriousdisasterstoRenminUniversityofChina.Alargenumberofcadresandteacherswerecriticized,partyandgovernmentorganizationsatalllevelswereparalyzed,andallteachingandresearchworkwasforcedtostop.
InOctober1970,theBeijingMunicipalRevolutionaryCommitteenotifiedRenminUniversityofChinatoceaseoperations.TheRenminUniversityofChina,whichwasfoundedbytheCommunistPartyofChinaandhadaglorioushistoryofmorethan30yearsandexcellentrevolutionarytraditions,wasdisbanded.
InSeptember1977,DengXiaopingproposed:"RenminUniversityistoberun,mainlytotrainfinancialandtrade,economicmanagementcadresandMarxist-Leninisttheoreticalworkers."

InMarch1978,theCentralCommitteeoftheCommunistPartyofChinadesignatedChengFangwuandGuoYingqiutoberesponsibleforpreparingfortherestorationofRenminUniversityofChina.OnJuly7,theStateCouncilissuedadocumentreiteratingthat:RenminUniversityofChinaisacomprehensiveuniversityofsocialsciences.TherestorationofRenminUniversityofChinahastheabilitytostrengthenthetrainingofMarxist-Leninistsocialsciencetheorytalents,economicmanagementtalents,andpoliticalteachersincollegesanduniversities.Importantrole.InAugust1978,RenminUniversityofChinarestoredandbuiltnewprojectsinphilosophy,politicaleconomy,scientificsocialism,historyoftheCommunistPartyofChina,law,Chineselanguageandliterature,news,Chinesehistory,archives,planningandstatistics,finance,industrialeconomy,15departmentsoftradeeconomics,agriculturaleconomics,andeconomicinformationmanagement,6researchinstitutesforthedevelopmenthistoryofMarxism-Leninism,SovietandEasternEurope,foreigneconomicmanagement,historyoftheQingDynasty,populationtheory,languageandwriting,4directlyaffiliatedtoforeignlanguages,Russian,physicaleducation,andaudio-visualeducationTeachingunits,aswellasaffiliatedunitssuchaspublishinghouses,bookandcardinformationagencies,QingfengMachineryFactory,andaffiliatedhighschools;theschoolhas24undergraduatemajorsand14postgraduatemajors.
In1979,inaccordancewiththedeploymentoftheBeijingMunicipalCommitteeoftheCommunistPartyofChinaonexpandingenrollment,theschoolestablishedthefirstandsecondbranchschoolsinChongwenDistrictandXichengDistrictrespectively.
Atthebeginningof1979,inaccordancewiththespiritoftheThirdPlenarySessionoftheEleventhCentralCommitteeoftheCommunistPartyofChinaonshiftingthefocusofpartyandstateworktothesocialistmodernizationcenteredoneconomicconstruction,RenminUniversityofChinadecidedtoputtheschoolThefocusofworkhasshiftedtoteachingandscientificresearch.
OnNovember26,1981,withtheapprovaloftheStateCouncil,theschoolbecamethefirstbatchofdoctoralandmaster'sdegreegrantingunitsinthecountry.
In1986,RenminUniversityofChinaconscientiouslyimplementedthespiritofthe"DecisionoftheCentralCommitteeoftheCommunistPartyofChinaonSystemReform",proposedtofurtherimplementtheteaching-centeredpolicy,strengthenteachingmanagement,promoteteachingreform,improveteachingquality,andcorrespondinglyAseriesofrulesandregulationshavebeenformulated.RenminUniversityofChinaexertsthefunctionsofhighereducationinstitutionsinpersonneltraining,scientificresearchandsocialservices,anddevelopsinacoordinatedmultidisciplinarydirection.
InDecember1996,theschoolwasselectedasoneofthefirstbatchof"211Project"universitiesinthecountry.
In1999,itwasselectedasthefirstbatchofnationalcollegestudents'culturalqualityeducationbases.
InApril2010,itwasratedas"NationalGraduateEmploymentExperienceCollege"bytheMinistryofEducation.
In2001,theschoolwasidentifiedasahigh-levelresearchuniversityinthekeyconstructionofthenational"985Project".
In2007,itwasselectedasoneofthefirstbatchofnationalcollegestudents’innovativeexperimentalprograms.
In2009,theCentralOrganizationDepartmentandtheMinistryofEducationdesignatedRenminUniversityofChinaasthefirstbatchofuniversitybasesfortheeducationandtrainingofcadresacrossthecountry.
OnDecember31,2011,theMinistryofEducationofficiallyissuedadocument"ApprovaloftheMinistryofEducationonIssuesConcerningtheLandAcquisitionandConstructionofaNewCampusofRenminUniversityofChina",approvingRenminUniversityofChinatoacquire2,400acresoflandtobuildanewcampusinTongzhouDistrict,Beijing.
OnSeptember4,2012,theSuzhoucampusofRenminUniversityofChinawasformallyestablishedtoberesponsibleforthemanagementofteachingandresearchinstitutionssuchasRenminUniversityofChinaInternationalCollege(SuzhouResearchInstitute)andChinaLawSchool,aswellassocialserviceorganizations.InNovember,theschoolwasselectedasoneofthefirstbatchof"ExcellentLegalTalentEducationandTrainingProgram"bytheMinistryofEducation.
InMay2013,itwasidentifiedasthefirstbatchofsocialworkprofessionaltalenttrainingbasesoftheMinistryofCivilAffairs.
InSeptember2014,theschoolwasselectedasoneofthefirstbatchof"ExcellentAgriculturalandForestryTalentEducationandTrainingProgram"bytheMinistryofEducation.
InApril2016,RenminUniversityofChinaandtheShenzhenMunicipalPeople'sGovernmentsignedthe"MemorandumonCooperationinRunningSchoolsinShenzhen",andbothpartiesagreedtocooperateintheestablishmentoftheShenzhencampusofRenminUniversityofChinainShenzhen.
InSeptember2017,RenminUniversityofChinawasselectedintothenationallistof"World-ClassUniversitiesandFirst-ClassDisciplinaryConstructionUniversities".OnOctober2,theTongzhoucampusofRenminUniversityofChinalaidthefoundation.Thenewcampusisplannedtobeconstructedintwophases.Thefirstphasehasaconstructionareaofabout467,000squaremetersandthesecondphasehasaconstructionareaofabout985,000squaremeters.Theprojectisscheduledtobecompletedby2025.OnOctober25th,RenminUniversityofChinaandChinaAcademyofChineseMedicalSciencessignedastrategiccooperationframeworkagreement.InDecember,theResearchCenter(Academy)ofthePeople'sUniversityofChinatoStudytheThoughtofSocialismwithChineseCharacteristicsinaNewEraofJinpingwasestablished.
InMarch2018,theWorldUniversityThinkTankAlliancewasestablishedatRenminUniversityofChina;inthesamemonth,theschoolwasselectedasthefirstbatchofnational"newengineering"researchandpracticeprojectsbytheMinistryofEducation.OnApril19,RenminUniversityofChinawasapprovedbytheAcademicDegreesCommitteeoftheStateCouncilasanindependentreviewunitfordegreeauthorization.OnOctober9,RenminUniversityofChinaandChongqingMunicipalPeople'sGovernmentsignedastrategiccooperationframeworkagreement.InNovember,8domesticuniversitiesincludingRenminUniversityofChinajointlylaunchedthe"CollaborativeInnovationPlatformforUndergraduateMajorsinMarxistTheory"atLanzhouUniversitytoachievecross-regionalintegrationofeducationalresources.OnNovember25th,thestart-upmeetingoftheDachangExpansionAreaoftheNewCampusofRenminUniversityofChinainTongzhouwasheldinDachangHuiAutonomousCounty,Langfang,Hebei.
InJanuary2019,theGaolingArtificialIntelligenceCollegeofRenminUniversityofChinawasestablished.InSeptember,theschoolbecameafoundingmemberandgoverningunitoftheChinaArtificialIntelligenceEducationAssociation.
InJanuary2020,theschoolwasselectedasapilotprogramforenrollmentreformofbasicdisciplines(the"StrongFoundationProgram").OnJuly6,MingdeCollegeofRenminUniversityofChinaandMingliCollegeofRenminUniversityofChinawereestablished.InOctober,theInstituteofMoralEducationforPrimaryandSecondarySchoolsofRenminUniversityofChinawasestablished;inthesamemonth,itwasdesignatedbytheStateIntellectualPropertyOfficeandtheMinistryofEducationasthe2020NationalIntellectualPropertyPilotUniversity.
OnApril24,2021,theInstituteofCyberspaceDevelopmentandStrategyofRenminUniversityofChinaheldanunveilingceremonyattheSuzhoucampusofRenminUniversityofChina;onMay8,theNationalInstituteofSmallandMedium-sizedEnterprisesofRenminUniversityofChinawasinauguratedandestablished.

AsofDecember2016,theschoolhasundertakenorparticipatedinthe"MarxistTheoreticalResearchandConstructionProject","NationalQingHistoryCompilationProject",and"Beijing2008OlympicGamesOverallImpactAssessment(OGGI)","DevelopmentofColdNeutronInelasticScatteringSpectrometer"andotherlargeandimportantprojects.Since2001,theschoolhasobtainedmorethan14,600projectsatalllevels,includingtheNationalSocialScienceFundProject,theNationalNaturalScienceFundProject,theHumanitiesandSocialSciencePlanningProjectoftheMinistryofEducation,andtheBeijingSocialSciencePlanningProject,withatotalfundingofmorethan2.41billionyuan.Amongthem,thenumberofmajorprojectsoftheNationalSocialScienceFundandthemajorresearchprojectsofhumanitiesandsocialsciencesoftheMinistryofEducationranksfirstinChina.
In2016,theschoolwon9majorprojectsfromtheNationalSocialScienceFund;45projectsfromtheNationalSocialScienceFund,including8keyprojects,25generalprojects,and12youthprojects.Thetotalnumberofprojectsapprovedsince2003RankedfirstamongChineseuniversitiesfortheeleventhtimesince1999;ithasreceived57projectsfromtheNationalNaturalScienceFoundationofChina,withafundingamount(directfunding)of32.212millionyuan.
