September1949,bytheNationalConservatoryofMusic(includinginfantclasses),NortheastLuXunAcademyofArtsMusicTroupe,NorthChinaUniversitySchoolofArtsandMusicDepartmentofMusic,NationalPekingCollegeofArtsMusicDepartmentSeveralmusiceducationinstitutions,includingShanghai,Shanghai,andHongKongChineseConservatoryofMusic,weremergedandreorganizedinTianjin.OnDecember18,theStateCouncilofficiallynamedtheschoolastheCentralConservatoryofMusic.InJune1950,thecollegewasinauguratedinTianjin.
In1952,theMusicDepartmentofYenchingUniversitywasmergedintothecollege.
In1958,thecollegemovedtoBeijing.
InNovember1981,withtheapprovaloftheStateCouncil,theCentralConservatoryofMusicbecamethefirstbatchofdoctoralandmaster'sdegreegrantingunitsinthecountry.
InSeptember2017,itwasselectedasoneofthefirstbatchof"DoubleFirstClass"world-classdisciplineconstructionuniversitiesinthecountry.

SteinwayGarden:Thedesignisinspiredbythetreblesymbolinthestaff,andthebird's-eyeviewofthegardenplanisatreblesymbol.Thewesternendofthesymbolisarosegardencomposedofseveralpondsofroses.WhilebecomingthecentralgardenoftheSteinwayGardens,italsoplaystheroleofaroundaboutaroundtheisland.Attheeastendisapool,reflectingtheblueskyandwhiteclouds,andtheskythatimpliesartisticthoughtisendless.Connectingthetwoendsaretwogardenroads,thenorthandthesouth,betweenthetworoadsisarelativelyopenlawn,andontheoutsideisthecharacteristiclandscapeoftheSteinwayGardens---longcypressballandpiano-keyboxwoodhedgerow.Thegardenisplantedwithmorethan30varietiesofplantssuchastallChinesepine,five-corneredmaple,Jiaodongeuonymus,rough,crabapple,woodhydrangea,andcypressball.
ComprehensivePlaza:Coveringanareaof4,500squaremeters,itisthecenteroftheschool.Itsdesignstyleismodernandartistic,andthegranitefragmentationgardenroaddividesthesquareintotwoparts,thenorthandthesouth.Betweenthelawnonthenorthsideandthecomplexisaplantingbelt.
Zhengyuan:Locatedonthenorthsideofthebasketballcourt,asmallsquareispavedwithwoodenslatsinthemiddleofthegarden,paintedwithwalnut-coloredwoodwaxoil.Severalstoneslabsresemblingzithersareplacedaroundthesmallsquare.
Qinyuan:OntheeastsideofthelibraryintheCentralConservatoryofMusic,thereisanopenS-shapedrestspacewithagranitegardenroadinthemiddle,decoratedwithcherryblossomredstonestrips.Thearc-shapedwoodenseatsbuiltaroundtheoriginalancienttreesandpaintedinbeige,theoutlineoftheentirespaceresemblesacello,soitisnamed"QinYuan".
