TheestablishmentofCambridgeUniversityIn1209,itwasfirstestablishedbyagroupofteacherswhoescapedfromtheUniversityofOxfordinordertoavoidfighting.Inthe12thcentury,Franciscans,Benedictines,andClothscametosettleinthisflat,dampmarsharea,andCambridgeshirewasborn.
In1209,twoscholasticphilosophersfromOxfordUniversitywereaccusedofmurderingaprostitute,andtheOxfordshirecourtsentencedthemtohang.Inprotest,Oxfordteachersstoppedteachingforawhileandleftoneafteranother.SomeofthemcametoCambridgeshireandfoundedCambridgeUniversity.
About1225,theteachersofCambridgeelectedaprincipalfromamongthem.HispowerwasapprovedbyKingHenryIII,andtheautonomousmanagementoftheuniversitycamefromthis.Soonafter,in1233,PopeGregorIXapprovedit.ThischurchprivilegewasnotenjoyedbyOxforduntil1254.ThedecreeofHenryIIIandhisheirsensuredthemonopolyofthetwouniversities.Untilthe19thcentury,forsixhundredyears,OxfordandCambridgeweretheonlyuniversitiesinEngland.NowhereelseinEuropethereissuchamonopoly.LikeOxford,thisuniversityinCambridgedidnothaveitsownhouseatthebeginning.Theyteachandliveinrentedhouses,wherevertheyare.Thecollegestudentslivedinthehostelfromthebeginning,supervisedbytheowner.
In1231,KingHenryIIIgrantedCambridgeamonopolyonteaching.
In1280,beforethisprivatehostelwasreplacedbyacollegewithitsownschoolbuildingsanddonations,therewerealready34collegestudentapartmentsofthiskindinthecity.Donationscanensurethecollege’spersistenceandindependence.

In1284,BishopHughdeBalshamofAveryAbbeyfoundedCambridge’sfirstThecollege-PeterhouseCollege.Untilthecollegehaditsstatutes,itfollowedthemodelofOxford’sBishop’sCollege,MertonCollege,whichwas20yearsearlier.Cambridgegraduateshavehadthebestjobopportunitiesinthepast,especiallyaftertheplaguethattooknearlyonethirdoftheBritishpopulationfrom1347to1348.Thedemandhasincreased.Around1370,Cambridgehadeightcollegesandabout20hostels.Therearenearly700peopleintheentireuniversity.ThefoundersofCambridge’searlycollegesweredefinitelynotjustchurchpersonnel.Italsoincludesthekingandtheirwomen,thewivesofupper-classnobleslikeElizabethdeClaireandtheCountessofPembroke,andtherearequiteafewstateofficials,merchants,andbishops.TheguardianoftheCollegeofChrististhemostspecial.ItistheonlycollegeinCambridge(andOxford)thatwasco-foundedbytwoguildsinthecity.Duringthisperiod,theuniversitybuiltitsfirstbuildingofitsown,withclassroomsandmeetingrooms.,Thelibraryandtheoldschoolofthemanagementbuilding(1350-1475).Othercollegesarecenteredaroundthecoreofthesecolleges:ClareCollege,TrinityCollege,GonvilleCollege.
About1500,thereweremorethanadozencollegesinCambridge,mostofwhichwerelocatedbetweentheHighStreetandJianhe.ThesiteofthelaterTrinityCollegeandSt.John'sCollege.Whenhumanisticideasalsospreadwithprinting.ThemostoutstandingrepresentativeofthisgreatrevivaloftheclassicalspiritinEuropeisErasmusfromRotterdam.
From1511to1514,helivedinQueen'sCollege,teachingtheologyandGreek,writing,translation,publishing,andcorrespondence,withunparalleledvigorandelegantstyleofwriting.ErasmusismorethanjustapreacherforCambridge.Thestudyoforiginalmaterialsreplacedthemedievalscholasticphilosophy.Thefocushasshiftedfromtheologytoeloquence,andfromtrainingpastorstotraininglearnednationalleaders.Sincethen,ancientlanguagesandliteraturehavelongoccupiedanimportantpositionintheteachingcoursesofBritishuniversities.TheCambridgehumanists'interestinGreekandHebrewbroughtcollatedversionsoftheBibleandancientreligiouswritings.Thisisalsoahotbedofreform.ThemanwhocalledEramustoCambridgewashisfriendJohnFisher,andheplayedakeyroleinthisdevelopment.ThehumanitarianteachingplanhasenabledtheUniversityofCambridgetoriseintoaEuropean-leveluniversitywithinafewyears,firstofallonthesamelevelasOxford.AlthoughHenryVIIIhimselfhadneverhadaspecialinterestinCambridge,hedonatedfiveWang'sprofessorseatstotheuniversity.Thisisacontradictionbetweentheeraanditsflameking.Inthiseraofbreakthroughs,theroyalfamilyneedsOxfordandCambridgetoserveasreliableadministrators,juristsandpastors,andtoserveasthebackboneofthegovernment.Therefore,HenryVIIIhimselffinallyfoundedanacademyin1546andmergedthetwoolderacademiesintoalargernewacademythatsurpassedalltheacademiessofar-TrinityCollege.Thisisnotjustanobleman.Signoffreedom.ItisstilltheonlycollegeinCambridgethatisnotelectedbyacademiciansbutisappointedbytheroyalfamilyontheproposaloftheprimeminister.

WhenJamesIstayedatTrinityCollegein1614,smokingwasforbiddenintheentirecollegebecauseitiswellknownthatthekinghatedsmoking.Forhispastime,theteachersarrangedaphilosophicalplay,adebatingperformanceonthequestionof"whetherthedogsengageinsyllogism".Finallycametotheconclusionthatdogscannotthink.Themonarchsaidafterhearingthathisdogwasanexception.Theteachersechoedloudly.ThereisnodoubtthatCambridgeisaspirituallyactiveplace,fulloftheologicalandpoliticaldebates,anditisnotonlytheyoungMiltonwhohasbenefitedalot.AtSydneySussexCollege,studentOliverCromwellcameintocontactwithCalvinism.In1640,hewaselectedtoParliamentonbehalfofCambridgebyonevote-"Theonlyvoteruinedthechurch.Italsoruinedthekingdom.”saidJohnCleveland,anacademicianandpoetofSt.John’sCollege.Cromwellreturnedin1643,turningthecollegeintoabarracksandCambridgeintotheheadquartersoftheEastAngliaParliamentaryMovement.Mostofthedeanslosttheirofficialposts,andhalfoftheacademicians,morethan200peopleintotal,werefired.Aftertherestorationofthemonarchy,theactofunificationrestoredtheoldBritishrules.Thedarlingoftheroyalfamilywasappointedasthepresidentoftheuniversity.Duringthisperiod,itwasnotonlythePlatonistsofCambridgewhowereabletocarryoutresearchandteachingwithDescartes'unwaveringsteadfastness,butafreereligiousphilosophicalorganization:"DoctrineisthecandlelightoftheLord."Faithseeksreasonsforreason,andreasonfindsareason.Anewreligion-naturalsciences.AftertheestablishmentoftheRoyalClubofLondon(1660),professorsofmathematics,chemistryandastronomywereestablished.ThestarofIsaacNewtonshinedaboveCambridge.

Inthe18thcentury,theroyalfamilyandparliamentfurtherallowedtheuniversitytomanageindependently.Teachersandstudentsdowhattheywanttodomost:learningandhavingfun.Around1800,thereputationofCambridge(andOxford)wasdamaged.Twootheruniversitiessurpassedthem,especiallyinnaturalsciences:theUniversityofEdinburghinScotlandandtheUniversityofGöttingeninGermany,whichwerefoundedbyGeorgeIIandsoonbecamethemostfamousuniversitiesforHanoverians.Inaddition,therewerecompetitorsinEnglandforthefirsttime,DurhamUniversity(1832)andLondonUniversity(1836),"NiuJian"lostitsmonopoly.Atthesametime,thenumberofcollegestudentsisontherise.Thedevelopedmiddleclassofthebourgeoisieneedsnewtraininggrounds.IntheVictoriandynasty,anincreasinglyindustrializedandcommercializedsociety,Cambridgealsofeltthatithadtohelpandshouldbereformed.Albert,thehusbandofaCoburg-TowerPrinceandQueenVictoria,promotedthisreform.In1847,theUniversityofCambridgeselectedthisunpopularGermanastheprincipalbyasmallmajority.In1871,anotherlawendeddiscriminationagainstthosewhodidnotbelieveintheAnglicanChurch.In1861,peoplenoticedthefirstmarriedteacher,whichshowsthatCambridgeUniversityisgraduallyleavingtheMiddleAges.Before1860,theuniversityofficiallyabolishedtheprohibitiononthemarriageofacademicians.Aseachcollegehastherighttodecidethismatterindependently,itwasnotuntilafter1880thattheacademicians'marriagewishwassuccessful.ThisbroughtCambridgeasmallboominarchitectureandbabies.
In1870,thethenpresidentoftheuniversity,WilliamCavendish,theseventhDukeofDevon,fundedachairofexperimentalphysicsandalaboratory,bothofwhichwerebasedonNamedafterthesurnameofoneofhisancestors,physicistHenryCavendish.Thatwasthebeginningofthebrilliantdevelopmentofnaturalscience.ThepopulationofCambridgeincreasedfourfoldinthe19thcentury,andthenumberofresidentswasnearly50,000.InthespiritoftheforeveryoungandcharmingRupertBrook,beautiesandwisemengatheraroundhim,aworldofpuntingcompetitions,MayDayrallies,andblue-leafliqueurs.
Cambridgebetweenthetwowarsisaplaceofjoy,eleganceandintellectualcontroversy.RepresentativesincludeBertrandRussell,MaynardKeynes,andLudwigWittgenstein.Philosophy,economics,andnaturalsciencesarewelldeveloped,anddebateassociationssuchasthestudentdramaandmoralscienceclubHereticsorthemosthigh-endapostleclubofallclubsarealsoprosperous.Hitler'scomingtopowerturnedtheseargumentsintoabloodyreality.VirginiaWolf'snephewJulianBellandhisfriendJohnComfortwereyoungCambridgevolunteerswhodiedintheSpanishCivilWar.Theycontained"DasKapital"intheirschoolbags.
After1933,manycollegestudentsandteachersfeltthatMarxismwastheonlychoiceworthyofadmiration.AcademicianandhistorianEricHobsbaumofKing'sCollegewasaCommunistevenuntil1990.TheUniversityAssistanceCommitteeisanaidorganizationthatbeganitsworkin1933.Atthattime,withitshelp,firstexilednaturalscientistsfoundrefugeinCambridge.AmongthemwastheViennesechemistMaxPerutz,whoestablisheditin1947.Theworld-renownedmolecularbiologylaboratory.Becauseofhislife'swork,thestudyofhemoglobin,PerutzwontheNobelPrizetogetherwithhiscolleagueJohnKendrewin1962.Today,theUniversityofCambridgehas31independentautonomouscollegeswithapproximately19,000students.Someofthenewcollegesarepurelygraduateschools:DarwinCollege,WolfsonCollege,ClareSchool.Thisdevelopmentbeganwiththenewlybuiltuniversitylibraryin1934,andbytheendofthe20thcentury,anewcampusappearedinthewestofthecity.
In2009,CambridgeUniversityheldagrandcelebrationtocommemoratethe800thanniversaryofthefoundingoftheuniversity.
In2013,theconstructionofanewareainthenorthwestofCambridgebegan.
In2016,theCambridgeUniversityLibrarycommemoratedthe600thanniversaryofitsestablishment.

Althoughuniversitiesandcollegesarecomplementarytoeachother,theyaredifferententitiesandareeconomicallyindependent.Universitiesarepubliclyownedandfundedbythestate,whilecollegesareprivatelyowned,makingalivingontheirown,andareresponsiblefortheirownprofitsandlosses.Universitiesareresponsibleforgraduatestudents,whilecollegesareresponsibleforenrollingundergraduates,andthenumberisplannedbytheuniversity.Theteachingofallstudentsistheresponsibilityoftheuniversity,andthecollegeisresponsibleforthelifeofthestudentsandtheamateurtutoringofundergraduates.Attheendofeachyear,theuniversityscoresaccordingtotheresultsoftheundergraduatesofeachcollegeaccordingtocertainrules,queuesthecolleges,andpromotescompetitionamongthecolleges.Theinternalmanagementoftheuniversityiscarriedoutindependentlybyvariousdepartments,andasmallnumberofexternalaffairsarehandledbyrepresentativesappointedbythecentralinstitutionoftheuniversity.

Decision-makingrules
Therearetwotypesofdecision-making:thefirstisasimpler,agreeablemotion(suchasappointingthepresidentanduniversitypersonnel),whicharegenerallyproposedbyuniversitymeetings.PublishedintheCambridgeschooljournal,ifthereisnooppositionfromacertainnumberofmembersoftheRegentwithin10days,itwillbepassed.Andifitisamorecomplexandimportantmotionproposedbysomeoneoutsidetheuniversitymeeting,thesponsorwillfirstpublishthemotionintheschooljournal,thenholdanopendebate,andfinally,afterthesponsorhasconsideredalltheopinions,suggestthattheRegenttorevisetheproposal.,Andthenpublishedintheschooljournal,ifnocertainnumberofmembersoftheRegentwithin10daysobjecttoit,itwillbepassed.Butifacertainnumberofmembersdeemitnecessary,theRegentshallholdavote.Votingisdonebymail.WhentheRegentholdsameeting,itispresidedoverbytheprincipal.Iftheprincipalisabsent,theviceprincipalpresidesoverit.Iftheviceprincipalisalsoabsent,itispresidedoverbythedeanofacollegedesignatedbyit.Generally,itcanberesolvedwithoutameeting,but4meetingsmustbeheldeveryJunetoapprovetheawardofthedegree.

TherearethreedifferencesbetweenMPhilandordinarymaster's:
First,oneortwoyearsofassociatedoctoratecanbecalculatedtothetimeofdoctoraldegree,andfromthemaster'sdirectstudytothedoctoraldegree,Ittakesatleastthreeyears;
Secondly,ifthefinalscoremeetstherequirementsforPh.Academic;
Third,Cambridgestipulatesthatifyouhaveworkedforacertainnumberofyearsafterobtaininganassociatedoctorate,youcanalsodirectlysubmitadoctoraldissertation.Theschoolcanawardadoctoraldegreebasedonthequalityofthedissertationandworkperformance.,Whilethegeneralmasterdoesnothavethishonor.

The"CambridgeModel"istheresultoftheUniversityofCambridgeWhittleLaboratoryandRolls-RoyceintheenginefieldThecooperationisbasedonthelaboratory’sbasicresearchandknowledgeinnovation.ThroughRolls-Royce’sannualinvestmentof6millionpounds,thelaboratoryhasbecomeaninternationallyrenownedresearchinstitutioninthisfield.Thecompanyhastransformedintoaninternationallyrenownedenginecompanythroughlaboratoryresults.Theuniversityscientificresearchteamandentrepreneurteamcollaboratetoinnovateandjointlyrealizetheintegrateddevelopmentofknowledge,technologyandindustry.WecalltheoperatingmodelofthecooperativedevelopmentoftheUniversityofCambridgeWhittleLaboratoryandRolls-RoyceCompanyasthe"CambridgeModel".

1.A-levelcourses:A-levelisdividedintoAS-level(equivalenttodomesticseniorthree)andA2-level(ahigherlevelthanthedomesticseniorthird)twostages,AS-levelandA2-leveltogetherformA-level.CambridgeUniversityrequiresstudentstosubmitallAS-levelcoursesandA2-levelcoursestotheschoolwhenapplying.AS-levelusuallyrequires4-5courses(thereisnodifferencebetween4or5courses),andatleast3coursesarerequiredtoachieveAorabove;A-levelusuallyrequires3-4courses,andhumanitiesandsocialsciencesrequireA*AAAbove,sciencemajorsrequireA*A*Aorhigher.
2.IBcourse:requiresatotalscoreof40-41pointsormore,requiresatleast3high-levelcourses(HigherLevel),andatleasttwoofthemachieveafullscoreof7points,theother6pointsTheabove,thatis,therequirementis7-7-6orabove,andsomemajorsmayalsorequireaspecificcourseof7points.
3.APcoursesrequireatleast5coursestoachieveafullscoreof5points.Inaddition,studentswhoapplythroughAPcoursesarealsorequiredtosubmitadditionalSATandSATⅡscores.SATⅡrequiresnolessthan700points.
4.Collegeentranceexamination:CambridgeUniversityacceptsdirectapplicationsforcollegeentranceexaminationscores,buttherequirementsareveryhigh—itisrequiredtorankinthetop1%-2%ofeachprovince.Youcannotapplyifyouhaveonlythetestscores.
