At8:52AMonMay2,1998,HIDE,formerlyknownasHidetoMatsumoto,diedunexpectedlyathomeattheageof34.ThelasthopeofX-JAPAN’slegendary2000reorganizationplanwasalsoshattered.Hisdeathhasbeenamysterysofar.Suicidesduetofollowinghidehaveoccurredcontinuouslyforseveraldays.ItwasheldatHonganjiTempleonMay7th.Duringthefuneral,50,000fansfromalloverthecountrygathered.Thefuneralprocessionwasmorethantwokilometerslong,and197peoplecollapsedfromanemiaandpassedouttothehospitalonthehottestdayoftheyear.TheTokyoFireDepartmentstatedthat“exceptforaccidents.Besides,forthefirsttimesomanypeoplefainted",verysurprisedhide'shugeinfluence.
