Monongahela damage and pollution

Monongahela (Monongahela River), known locally as "Mon", not only provides excellent wildlife habitat and excellent leisure and entertainment, also supplies drinking water to West Virginia and Pennsylvania countless residents.

Like many local waters, like the Monongahela River and its many tributaries have been subjected to destruction and pollution of coal mining, including early and modern humans, various human activities. In particular, the Monongahela River contaminated by toxic substances, is suffering an unprecedented threat to these toxic pollutants from mining activities focused on natural gas resources of the local Marcellus shale (Marcellus Shale).

The federal government and West Virginia and Pennsylvania must take immediate action to prevent further contamination by the Marcellus shale caused, and effectively the already fragile Monongahela River Water Quality protect.

Monongahela River flows through West Virginia's Monongahela National forest (Monongahela National forest), including the 13 recommended for the wild scenic river, not only provides an excellent habitat for fish and wildlife species diversity, also offers unmatched fishing and whitewater boating eastern United States people sports and leisure venues. A series of dams constructed the Monongahela entirely suitable for ship navigation.

Ohio River

Monongahela River and Yuekejiani (Youghiogheny River) converge before flowing through the city of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, and the Allegheny River (Allegheny River ) intersection, the final form Ohio River (Ohio River).
